Kaneka Green Planet, through the Kaneka Foundation, is Giving Back

Kaneka Green Planet actively promotes the well-being of our oceans and marine ecosystems. In our commitment to sustaining oceanic vitality, we have chosen to endorse the Sea Turtle Conservancy. This partnership aims to safeguard the life and habitats of sea turtles. Sea turtles, unique in their diet of sea grass, contribute to the health of this underwater vegetation. Regular trimming is essential for sea grass to thrive and extend across the sea floor, fostering an environment conducive to its growth rather than allowing the grass blades to elongate excessively. Sea grass beds serve as crucial breeding and developmental grounds for various species, including fish, shellfish, and crustaceans. The preservation of these beds is paramount, as they support the survival of numerous marine species that are essential to human harvesting activities, forming the foundation of the oceanic food chain. The potential repercussions of neglecting these ecosystems are substantial, with the risk of losing diverse marine species, ultimately impacting human welfare. The extinction of sea turtles could lead to a significant reduction in sea grass beds, causing a cascading effect on other species dependent on these beds for survival. It underscores the interconnectedness of all elements within an ecosystem—losing one component could trigger a chain reaction affecting the entire system. (Source)

About the Sea Turtle Conservancy

The Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC) is the world’s oldest sea turtle research and conservation group. A nonprofit organization based in Florida, STC also has projects in Costa Rica, Panama, Bermuda, Cuba and Nevis. It is the mission of STC to ensure the survival of sea turtles within the Caribbean, Atlantic and Pacific through research, education, training, advocacy and protection of the natural habitats upon which turtles depend. For more than 60 years, STC has been studying and protecting marine turtles and their habitats, making STC the oldest and most accomplished sea turtle conservation organization in the world. STC’s research programs have yielded much of what is now known about sea turtles and the threats they face, and the organization is applying this knowledge to carry out the world’s most successful sea turtle protection and recovery programs. Founded in 1959 by renowned biologist and natural writer, Dr. Archie Carr, STC’s cornerstone program in Tortuguero, Costa Rica, is the longest-running sea turtle research program in the world. STC’s community-centric Chiriquí Beach program in Panama is leading the way for the recovery of critically-endangered hawksbill and leatherback populations in the Caribbean. In addition, satellite-tracking research at these major program sites and others, including Nevis, El Salvador, Surinam, Puerto Rico, Cuba and Florida, are identifying migratory patterns and vital oceanic habitats to improve conservation efforts. STC’s advocacy programs are directly engaging in issues that affect important sea turtle nesting populations in the US, Central America, Caribbean and internationally. With a mission focused solely on sea turtle conservation, STC is working to ensure the protection of sea turtles and the habitats upon which they depend.
