A World First for Sustainable Sports Surfaces – Kaneka Green Planet® Artificial Turf

We are proud to announce that biodegradable artificial turf made with Kaneka Green Planet® Biodegradable Polymer, co-developed with Mizuno Corporation, has been installed at Vantelin Dome Nagoya. This milestone marks the world’s first adoption of biodegradable artificial turf made with Green Planet in a professional stadium warning zone.

Green Planet™ is Kaneka’s biobased and biodegradable polymer (PHBH), designed to reduce reliance on petroleum and help address the growing challenge of plastic pollution. It naturally biodegrades into CO₂ and water in soil and seawater, supporting cleaner oceans and a healthier planet.

As concerns grow around microplastics generated from conventional artificial turf, Kaneka partnered with Mizuno to create a next-generation solution. The result is high-performance artificial turf for indoor sports that delivers the look, feel, and durability athletes expect, while advancing environmental responsibility. More than 90% of the turf blade resin is derived from biomass, contributing to reduced CO₂ emissions compared to traditional petroleum-based materials.

Selected as part of the Vantelin Dome Nagoya renovation, this innovative turf was highly praised for its player safety, durability, and cushioning performance, proving that sustainability and performance can go hand in hand.
